Äkta Explorer

Äkta Explorer

The Äkta Explorer Chromatography System is one of the more sophisticated HPLC/FPLC chromatography system from GE Healthcare's Äkta series. It is located in Petri Salvén's laboratory (room 511b) in the Molecular Cancer Biology Program in the fifth floor of the Biomedium Helsinki.

The Äkta Explorer is the 100 Air model with fraction collector Frac-950 and sample application pump P-960. It is connected to and controled from a Windows XP computer and its current software software version is Unicorn 5.1. For unattended, automated purifications we can install the Äkta 3D Plus kit. Remote operation and administration is possible via different protocols (NomachineNX or Windows Remote Desktop).

The machine is available for your use after receiving a user name/password and a short introduction by the maintainer Michael Jeltsch (from Kari Alitalo's group) or from Marko Hyytiäinen (from Jorma Keski-Oja's lab) if Michael is unavailable. Reservations for the machine are done online (only possible from within the Helsinki University network). User-generated data is backed up automatically using BackupPC.

WAVE cell culture

WAVE Reactor

Because the cell and protein production core facility at Biomedicum Helsinki has been discontinued, we have acquired a WAVE system. We can grow up to 10 litres of cells in one production cycle. We have been using the system successfully for stably transfected S2 insect cells and mammalian 293 cells.
