Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

How do I install/uninstall PlasmaDNA?

When you download PlasmaDNA, you receive a compressed (.zip) file.  Unarchive it to obtain a folder containing the program.  Just put the folder wherever you prefer, it doesn't matter for the proper fonction of the program

If you don't like PlasmaDNA and would like to remove it from your system, just delete the folder.  That's it!  PlasmaDNA does not make any other modification on your computer (shortcuts, Start menu, etc.)

I added a wrong domain/primer in the database. How do I remove it?

For simplicity reasons, PlasmaDNA focuses on adding new domains and primers to the databases. For more complex modifications or deletions, use the small application PlasmaDMan (PlasmaDNA Database Manager) included with the package (version 1.3.5 and later).

it is possible to remove bad domains/primers by editing the simple-text based database file with a text editing program such as Notepad or Word, although mistakes could cause loading errors of the databases by PlasmaDNA.

See the Database Format link for more information on how to keep the file readable by PlasmaDNA. In extreme cases, it is possible to overwrite the domains.pdat file with the one supplied in the PlasmaDNA package to reset the database to its original state.

How do I print my sequences/plasmid maps?

Due to limitations on the JUCE toolkit, it is not yet possible to print directly from PlasmaDNA.

However, sequences can be exported in the FASTA format, and the simple-text file generated can be opened by all word-processing programs

The graphical map of the fragment can be exported as a .JPEG graphical file, and be printed by any image analysis program.
