Research
Infertility treatment research group has focused on the safety of assisted reproductive techniques (ART) and treatment outcomes. Embryological, uterine and maternal markers for successful implantation have been defined. The project has shown that the policy of elective single embryo transfer (eSET) can be implemented in routine ART programs. This has significantly decreased the rate of multiple pregnancies in ART in Finland. This is an important accomplishment because multiple pregnancies used to downplay the true potential of ART. Long-term follow-up studies of ART families are ongoing. The most important research output has been eSET in which Finland is now world leader.
